about

This Album contains tracks made this year after the experience of creating the next Grouch in Dub album. This year has been extremely influential towards this 'dance' vibe everybody is talking about. Plus I've been experimenting with sound design to better my music production skills, to speak through musical vibrations mannn.

I created the ideas for 'Pilot Year Swing' and 'Twelve Yearsee' on two separate plane trips, one to India from Mauritius, the other back to Australia from Sri Lanka. The focus of Twelve Yearsee was to create a track on vibe, on evolving and development of each character in the track. I observed from Grouch to have fun and improvise with parameters like Delay, or Bass filters, or the character of the sound. I don't remember anything about Pilot other than messing around with weird chords and a funny drop.

Jesus Channel is a blur too but I wrote it maybe 2 or 3 weeks after returning to Australia, very chilled when trying to write it and wanted to try something more psy-trancey funky funny blah. Sandy Green, definitely very bass focused, trying to replicate sounds heard from Grouch in Dub by creating 4 different basses with their own unique texture and going in and out of each sound. It ended up very dubby for some reason, I wonder why...

Think Job, created during my 1 month break from my now ex-partner. This song only took 3 days to write and finish. I think it had to do with focusing my attention on improving myself during that month, meditating, yoga, taking breaks during my writing sessions, not overworking!!! I have a lot to thank her for for showing this way of being.

Channel Two was one of the songs written for the Ninja Tunes Production Music Library. Two songs made it in for an epic anthem album but this one didn't. I didn't like it for a while but revisited it later and came to love it again. I was focusing my attention on that super-saw sound, trying to emulate popular music, what the 'cool' kids listen to these days.

Flower Fight. The first minute and a half was created in my bed in an hour whilst waiting to be picked up from my house for a date hang thing? Then have been working on it off and on, from Australia to London. Grouch commented that it needed more details in the break-down sections. This is something I have been practice and trying to push in my songs but I still have a long way to go to control the power of vibrations with sound design. It pushed me to finish the song. I showed it to Ninja Tunes founder, Matt Black. He said his not super into 4/4 kicks, needed a strong motif, too many ideas but he liked the transitions. Yeah the transitions I'm happy with a lot. I agree with him regarding the motifs.

Which comes to now, the reason I am releasing this album. To release myself from what I have created so far to pursue creating more and refining my abilities as a music producer. I originally was going to release a single, Think Job, which I filmed the music video for before I left for UK (June). But ever since a chat with Isaac Chambers at Boomtown, and talking to him about the importance of releasing music, the idea of release, of giving yourself creative release. To let go and move on. It inspired me so much that now I'm releasing these 7 tracks.

At the time when I finished each song, they filled me with joy because each song was a reflection of new skills, ideas, and sounds. And that's why I always thought that I couldn't release the previous song I had made because now my skills have improved and the last song isn't good enough anymore. WRONG. I was wrong. I release these now with confidence that it's an imprint of where I am in music production at the moment. A part of my history.

And now, it's released. And now, I'm excited to create more songs, to further explore the possibilities of sound design and how I can use it to create a better reflection of the world I am a witness to. YES! So excited! Let's keep the releases coming!!
